May 12 – Attendance at pseudo-referendums held in eastern oblasts
of Ukraine ranged from 24 to 32%, said acting
President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov. Only 4% of Mariupol residents
were able to participate in the so
called "referendum". Only 4 polling stations were operating in a city with
almost half a million residents. Usually elections in Mariupol are
held at 216 polling stations. Central Election Commission of Ukraine
has stated that the so
called referendums in Donetsk and
Luhansk oblasts held on May
11th have absolutely no legal consequences.
May 12 – Organizers of the pseudo-referendum on the status
of Luhansk oblast held on
May 11th, claim that 96% of residents
voted for the independence of self-proclaimed "Luhansk Republic", whereas the turnout
at the polling
stations amounted to 75%. Organizers of the pseudo-referendum on the status
of Donetsk oblast argue that
turnout in their oblast was
74.87% and 89.07% of residents voted for the recognition
of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk Republic". The EU and the US emphasized
that they do not recognize
the results of the "referendum"
and believe that it was
illegal.
May 12 – There has
been an overturn
of leadership within the group
of Donetsk separatists. Former leaders of Donetsk
separatists have been removed by
Serhiy Zdrylyuk, who calls himself
a closest ally/assistant to “Strielok”
(commander of the insurgents). According to Security
Service of Ukraine (SSU), “Strielok” is the colonel
of Russia’s Main Intelligence Departmentand his name is Igor
Girkin. Girkin, a Russian citizen and saboteur has
proclaimed himself to be Commander-in-Chief of “Donetsk People’s
Republic" and has appealed to
Russia for military assistance. Based on the
“results” of the so called
referendum, the separatists in Donetsk have proclaimed
a "sovereign state"
and asked to join Russia,
informed their leader Denis Pushilin.
Kremlin press service has issued
a statement saying that "Moscow respects the expression
of popular will in Donetsk
and Luhansk oblasts".
May 12 – Voluntary police groups consisting
of the employees
of the Metinvest
manufacturing (owned by billionaire Rinat Akhmetov) have been patrolling
the streets of the city
since Sunday, when the clashes
with terrorists occurred. The groups
are wearing “Metinvest” clothing and are working
in cooperation with local militia
officers. People are sick and
tired of looting and devastation,
created intentionally by the terrorists.
Akhmetov’s companies have not recognized
the “referendum” held by separatists
and have not allowed the
polling stations to be located
at their premises.
May 12 – 49 lives have been lost
since March 13th in Donetsk oblast.
According to live data provided
by the “Information
resistance” group, a fight has happened
among the groups of terrorists
near the village of Karpovka
close to Sloviansk – it is yet unclear
whether this is political confrontation
or plain banditry.
May 12 – Russian President Vladimir Putin calls on
the Western countries to divide
Ukraine together as written in
an article byMasha Gessen in the The
Washington Post.
Maidan Community Sector,
Lviv: Dear friends!
By annexing Crimea,
Russia has carried out an
act of aggression
against Ukraine. Currently Russia is transferring terrorist and sabotage
groups to Eastern Ukraine. Russia aims to
prevent legitimate presidential elections from happening. Everyday life in
Eastern Ukraine has turned into
a continuous nightmare in the middle
of Europe. Our country is
being destroyed right before our
eyes. We therefore take the courage to
inform you about current events
in Ukraine. This is just
another point of view. We
will do our
best to remain
objective.
P.S.: Please spread this appeal
as much as
possible.
