Russia has carried out an act of aggression towards Ukraine. Russian troops have entered Crimea. Thus we take it upon ourselves to inform you about the events in Ukraine. We will provide you with yet another viewpoint regarding this conflict. We will do our best to remain fair and objective.

April 5 – Citizens of Ukraine are following the initiative of boycotting Russian goods due to Russian aggression in Crimea.

April 5 – German electric utilities company could start supplying gas to Ukraine if an agreement is signed with NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine”, said Michael Murphy, RWE AG. Idea of reverse gas supply from Europe to Ukraine is an open question: actual reverse is hardly possible whereas a “virtual” reverse must be considered from legal validity point of view, said Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom Management Committee. Ukraine is ready to buy Russian gas for $268 per 1000 cubic meter, because this price is “acceptable and balanced”, stated Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. He also authorized the government to prepare for the discontinuance of Russian gas supply. In case of implementation of reverse gas supply from Europe through Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary, Ukraine could receive up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas yearly while paying 100-150 less per cubic meter.

April 5 – Russia will apply “harsh measures” in order to protect its agriculture market in case Ukraine exits the Commonwealth of Independent States or signs the Association Agreement with the EU, said Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

April 5 – Luhansk Department of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained and disarmed a large subversive group. The group consisted of 15 active participants. 300 submachine guns, 1 antitank grenade launcher, 5 handguns, numerous grenades, fire bomb bottles, many smooth-bore and cold arms pieces were confiscated from group members, who planned to seize power in Luhansk oblast on April 10th by threatening the life of civilians and using arms and explosives.

April 5 – Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel: “If the territorial integrity of Ukraine continues to be violated, then we will have to introduce economic sanctions”.
